Monarto Safari Resort

There’s something wildly indulgent about spending the day roaming through the largest safari experience outside of Africa and knowing your shower, slippers, and a glass of red are five minutes away. Whether you’re flying in from interstate or escaping Adelaide for a one-hour staycation, this place nails the “out of office, out of Australia” fantasy.
What they nailed
Location, location… lions
After a full day in the beating sun wandering past rhinos, giraffes, and zebras, you retreat to a balcony that overlooks the savannah. Not a metaphorical savannah. An actual one. Watching the animals drift toward the watering hole at dusk feels almost cinematic. It’s buzzing at sunrise and golden at sunset - prime binocular territory (which, conveniently, are provided in every room and stationed throughout the facility).
Design of the common areas
The shared spaces are beautiful - organic, serene, and effortlessly luxurious without trying too hard. Sipping a chianti on the deck while zebras wander past feels… mildly surreal in the best possible way. It’s calm but alive. A proper hive of activity morning and night.
Dining
The restaurant keeps things Australian and seasonal, and it works. The menu is thoughtful without being pretentious, prices are reasonable (a pleasant surprise), and there’s something for everyone. It feels polished but not stiff.
Marula Day Spa = elite tier
The Marula Day Spa deserves its own applause. Dyson tools, Jurlique skincare - no corners cut. The soakhouse experience is the standout: $110 per couple for an hour in the sauna, cold plunge, and hydrotherapy pool, plus wine, fruit, and truffles. It’s lush, it’s indulgent, and yes - we immediately rebooked for the next day. The spa staff are enthusiastic, warm, and eager to help you find the best experience for your needs.
A couple of caveats
Peak pricing
It can climb quickly during busy periods. Is it worth it? Yes. Will your wallet feel it? Also yes.
Pools in cooler months
Both common pools are outdoors. They’re heated… but let’s be honest, in winter they’re still a brisk character-building experience.
Room styling
The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed, but stylistically? A little beige. I didn't expect alligators on the walls or elephant lampshades, but a touch more safari personality would elevate it from tasteful to memorable.
It’s immersive without being gimmicky. Luxurious without being stuffy. Unique without trying too hard.
If you’ve ever wanted to wake up, step onto your balcony, and casually scan the horizon for giraffes before breakfast - this is your place.
Absolutely worth a visit. And honestly? Probably worth a second.
