Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience (Sydney)

This is the second review of the Faulty Towers Dining Experience. To read the first review, click here.

There’s seemingly no end to the choices of Sydney dining establishments, but have you ever dined at the Fawlty Towers?  The world-renowned Faulty Towers Dining Experience offers guests just that – immersing you completely in the nostalgic atmosphere that graced our television screens decades ago. Faulty Towers Dining Experience has been selling-out shows across the world, and while it is an authentic tribute to the world of Basil, Sybil and Manuel, those who are unfamiliar with FT lore will find just as much amusement as OG fans.

This is not my first time attending the Faulty Towers Dining Experience, however for my guest, it was not only their first encounter, but also their first exposure to the world of Faulty Towers in general! Without parents who held the show in high-regard, it’s uncommon for Gen Z-ers and Milennials to be acquainted with the cult-classic. I was admittedly worried, as I wondered how in-jokes, character acting and carefully-crafted homages would fare to someone who doesn’t have the appropriate contextual knowledge. Turns out, I needn’t be worried. Owing both to the timeless nature of the source material, and the masterful writing and comedic timing of the actors and show producers, there truly is entertainment for everyone - regardless of your prior relationship to the show.

The Faulty Towers Dining Experience is a 3-course dinner and show, held over 2 hours. The show itself follows a linear plotline and relies on audience participation (or at least, an audience in good humour) and improvisation. Still, while you’re enjoying your meal (which thankfully tastes far better than the fare you would receive at the real Faulty Towers), it’s the nuanced character acting of Sybil, Basil and Manuel meandering around and interacting with the diners that hits a home-run in authenticity and immersion. Expect side-splitting moments of laughter which are different upon every return visit. The real standout here is the uncanny embodiment of the characters. Capturing Basil, Sybil, and Manuel's essence, the cast has such palpable chemistry which echoes the on-screen magic. Throughout the experience, you're not just a spectator but an integral part of their unfolding episode.

Despite attempts by Basil, Manuel, and Sybil to curb your appetite, the three-course dinner is a palate-pleaser. Dietary needs are catered to (the vegetarian substitute earned rave reviews), and by dessert, you’ll be completely satisfied. The show is travelling around Australia for the first few months of 2024, and prices vary depending on the venue. View the below dates for more information:
