The Faulty Towers Dining Experience is a worldwide sensation that’s become a mainstay of the Adelaide Fringe. It’s a tribute to the cult-classic sitcom and offers a truly unique experience: step back in time and visit the Fawlty Towers yourself. This is my third consecutive year attending the Dining Experience, a testament to its immersion and true-to-screen character embodiments. Featuring a different cast than what I’ve seen in past years, I was hesitant to think that I’d see unfamiliar faces greeting me at the door, and the bar was set astronomically high. My doubts were quickly assuaged when I saw the very same moustache, blonde coiffure and white tuxedo waiting to escort me to my seat. The standard of acting, styling and improvisation is world-class and meticulously true-to-character – you’re immediately transported into the television screen.
Dietaries are catered for, though I’d rethink how necessary your new-age paleo lifestyle is when its in the hands of Manuel to facilitate. The standard menu features an minestrone entrée, Tunisian-spiced chicken breast served on a bed of couscous, and the highlight of the night – a chocolate posset with cream and fresh berries for dessert. The Terrace Hotel’s kitchen does a wonderful job at what is perhaps the least authentic part of the night: timely service and delicious food.
Depending on your party size you’ll be sitting at a table with a number of strangers. Fear not, over the course of the night you’ll likely become fast friends; though whether through common interest or hilarious trauma bonding is still up for debate. Most nights you can get a ticket for under $100 which, in 2025, is remarkable for a three-course dinner and show lasting approximately two hours. By the end of the night you can expect to be happy, satiated, and with bellies and ribs sore from laughter.
